"Going to Everest as part of this team is fulfilling one of my life dreams. I've been lucky enough to photograph elephants in the jungles of Sumatra, spend 5 winters photographing in the alpes, photograph Tiger Woods at the Open, Sharapova at Wimbledon and Kevin Pietersen at the Oval but this trip is one of those that I would have been in awe of - and now I'm going. My background includes running TGski chalet holidays in the alpes with a good friend Tom, photographing all over the world and now living between London and France. I've highlighted some of my favourite moments in photography above but expect them to be totally eclipsed on this trip.
"It's going to be a massive challenge as a team and as a photographer. I endeavour to capture the incredible landscapes, the harsh conditions, the raw emotion of expectation and the story of local cultures and cricket at Everest base camp. I look forward to updating you with photos along the way and to publishing the book when we get back".
Updates
Day 6
Today started with an incredible sunrise lighting up the peaks that surrounded us including Everest and Lhotse. By 6.30 I was in the temple watching the monks praying. Packing and breakfast took us to 8 and a big hike ahead. We new today was going to be tough and it delivered.
However, as with everyday so far; the views and the buzz of the trip kept us all going. Probably the best day for the landscapes so far and the photography geek in me can't get enough of Nepal and the Himalayas. Some people are struggling and the fear of AMS is pretty real now.
As we get higher everything is getting more and more amazing but also throwing in the more frightening side of what we're doing. The whole experience is breathtaking in every way possible.
Day 5
Photographing the school yesterday was incredible. Again the team of people that went to the school were a credit to everyone that we're representing out here, whether it was the cricketers coaching or the trektators playing games with the children. The sense of giving something was fantastic as we spent hours with them. Again, they loved the camera which is my version of the cricket bat and ball in integrating with these amazing people.
Today was another tough climb but the scenery is mind blowing and I've struggled to hike for want of taking more pictures. The memory cards are filling up but every corner we turn is a new view or event that can't be missed. This was finished in the best way with our best views yet of Everest!
Days 2 & 3
After a great first day hiking that gave us all motivation the second days climb was a bit of a shock. Whether it was the altitude, the steepness of the climb or the distance it was tough for all. It was however amazing for photography. The crazy high bridges were the pick of the backdrops as were some of the local people and the emotional efforts that everyone was putting in. Last night saw some emotions and people starting to see the effects bit I can't say enough for the way that the team pull together all the time. Today (13th April) was a great day starting with a porter style race and including photographing a wild Yak and obviously the highlight; getting our first sight of the peak of Everest: Amazing and obviously a massive goal of the trip already reached. This trip is reaching my expected heights already.
Day 1
After an evacuation at Heathrow we had a good journey and arrived in Kathmandu. Every corner I have turned since then I've wanted to take a photo. Teaching kids that live on the streets of Kathmandu some circket was fantastic. They were fascinated by the camera and the interaction between our guys and the kids was great to watch and be a part of. Since then we've had a pulse raising flight to Lukla and hiked the first leg of our journey. The scenery is incredible and each village brings amazing new people to photograph. I hope you enjoy the pics so far and looking forward to updating you with more.
